The New York Jets, one of the two tri-state area football teams, may soon suffer from a lack of offensive power and the loss of various players. At the end of last season, the Jets picked up what they thought would be their all time football player, Tim Tebow, who was brought in to give the Jets a little help on offense, or anywhere he may fit in.
Tebow has been known to play on special teams as a receiver and sometimes as a quarterback, although there is never much throwing involved.
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has been a complete mystery this year for selecting Tim Tebow and not making a real effort to go after Peyton Manning, who is ranked 3rd in the NFL for total yards. Unfortunately for the Jets, Peyton went up as a free agent after Rex had re-signed Marc Sanchez, the Jets’ current starting quarterback. However Tim Tebow was supposed to be the key to the whole puzzle, letting loose a whole new array of play in the NFL. With two quarterbacks, one very well known for his running ability, the possibilities for audible and trick plays would be endless. There was much speculation on the decisions made, and while the media praised the arrival of our new secondary quarterback, many people disapproved.
Now that we are six games into the season it seems apparent that the Jets are going to struggle because of their early injuries. In the third game of the season, Darrelle Revis, potentially one of the Jets’ best players and the top cornerback in the league, tore his ACL, which prevents him from coming back to the field for the rest of the season. A week later, in the game against the 49ers, the Jets top receiver Santonio Holmes went down clutching his left leg. The severity of his injury is still unknown but in the meantime the Jets have two stars down. And Tebow has not had much to show for himself as far as playing time and effectiveness on the field.
The Jets, Rex Ryan, and Tim Tebow need to show New York how miracles happen, because that is the only way New York will come out on top in this season. Rex Ryan made somewhat of a statement by bringing in Tebow, so now he needs to use the kid in the right way. Tim Tebow needs to be on the field all the time so that if things look bad for the pass, they switch him in for quarterback and he can run the hell out of that ball. When it comes down to it, Tim Tebow is a very versatile player who can, and has been played in various positions on the field. He is a wildcard, that can show up anywhere and reveal a variety of options to go to, whether by running a fake punt, standing in on Wildcat, or even just throwing that one, long pass that wins us the game.
