This spring and summer, the sounds of castanets will roll through the halls and galleries of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

In collaboration with the Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana dance company, the “100 Years of Flamenco in New York” exhibit opened  March 12 and runs until August 3. This is a multimedia exhibit, outlining the rich culture of Spanish and gypsy dance with film, photography, and intricate costumes. The library’s Bruno Walter Auditorium features lectures, film screenings, and live performances. Visitors can tour the exhibit while speakers play recordings of castanets and taconeo-the rhythmic patterns of footwork in Flamenco dance.

“100 Years of Flamenco” is open Monday through Saturday at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at 40 Lincoln Center Plaza.
