The yearly New School Block Party, usually filled with fun activities, free food and amazing live performances, has traditionally been a great kickoff to the school year and a way to foster community and school spirit. This year was no exception as New School students congregated on West 12th Street, on August 29, to enjoy free food, henna tattoos, an interactive art piece, and a live jazz concert, among other activities.
Shy freshmen made their way from booth to booth in hopes of finding out more about new school groups like the New School Improv Group, or long-established ones, like the Jewish Student’s Union. New School alums also found their way back to The New School and attended the Block Party to visit old friends and make new ones.
Twelfth Street residents were invited to leave their brownstones and join in the party, as well as friends and family of New School students.
The Block Party proved to be quite a success, although one student noted that “there was definitely less free shit than last year.”
