If you’re looking for something free to do this weekend, the Brooklyn Museum has you covered. Every first Saturday of the month the museum, in collaboration with Target, hosts a series of free activities including exhibitions, guest speakers and live performances.
“Kehinde Wiley’s [an African-American portait painter] work is going to be up and there’s going to be workshops that have to do with healing spaces and hands-on art,” said Ladin Awad, a Lang sophomore and frequent First Saturday attendee. “Towards the evening, Princess Nokia is going to be be performing and at night Melo X and another Dj are spinning.”
This Saturday, March 7, there will be an array of writers and musicians as well as artistic workshops and film screenings. Attendees say the events attract large, diverse audiences every month.
“It’s a really dope gathering of mostly beautiful brown folks,” said Awad.
