April 24th may just be another spring day, but in the fashion world it’s Fashion Revolution Day. It was started by a group of writers, designers, business leaders, store owners and parliamentarians in 2013, after over 1,133 garment workers died and 2,500 people were injured in the Rana Plaza building collapse in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The complex produced many of the clothes for popular brands, including Nautica and Primark.
The global campaign, now in its third year, has shifted focus; now the aim is to bring awareness to your shopping habits and to find out the ultimate question: Who made your clothes?
At Parsons, organizers put together #whomademyclothes guerilla photo booths in the various locations around campus. A students were asked to participate by taking a picture of their clothing label. post it on all their r social media platforms, , tagging the brand and adding the hashtag: #whomademyclothes.
Although many people just looked oddly at the photo booths, some students dido take their selfies and post it to their Instagram.
“I had no idea this was for a cause, its looks fun and I learned something,” said Renata Ngiza, student of anthropology and screen studies at Lang
The photo booths are still up and are ready for your use in the University Center and at the List Library
