FACT:
Okay, breathe. Let’s get a few things straightened out right away.
First, not all of the Lang advisors are gone. Leah Weich, Director of Advising and Student Support, confirmed that no one was fired. However, three advisors left us over the summer to pursue other administrative positions at NYU.
(We did hear, though that, and the sudden transition from six advisors to three has been difficult for those remaining.) (Insert OMG, ghost looking, emoji face here.)
Leah’s advice to concerned students? Stop in! Although the office is short staffed, there are three advisors left (out of a previous six) to help you. And you’re better off hanging out on the couch for a few minutes to see one of them then sending an e-mail that may take a few days to get a response.
In response to the students who claim to have no advisor? Have no fear! You do. The problem is, Weich explained, that due to the hire of a new tech-guy, the e-mails about advising were about a week delayed. They should be in your inbox now though, so once you’re done stalking the newspaper’s new website, GO CHECK YOUR E-MAILS.
In the meantime, if you’ve noticed delays or slight confusions during registrations, have sympathy. (Since the diaspora, three people are now doing the work of six.)
Maria Bossman, a graduate student who has been working in the registration office for four years now, especially feels the absence of Jonathon White who left this summer to take on a new position as the Associate Dean of Students at NYU.
But by the look of her mangled paper work, and the wait times to see just one of the few advisors, it looks as though a tech guy is not the resolution to an understaffed, over worked office. And now I’m curious, (as you should be too) is NYU taking over all of downtown Manhattan, scooping up liberal arts students and their trusted advisors like the tornado that stole Dorothy’s house? And as rumors go, have I just started another?
