On the second episode of Free Press Live, Maassai a Political Science major and Contemporary Music minor at The New School, brings hip hop politics to room 458 by performing work from her project, Black Girl Rants.
“I did that project out of frustration,” she said of the seven-song narrative.
The project details the struggles of being a female person of color and explores issues ranging from feminism to hair scrutiny.
NSFP first caught a glimpse of the Lang rapper during the Hip Hop Collective’s [link to article] first event, which will soon be followed by another freestyle session, hosted by Maassai herself. With an EP dropping later this spring, the Brooklyn-native is sure to merge her love for latin music and fusion with the hip hop beats that raised her.
