Comedy Show at Alligator Lounge

Tuesdays at 9:00 pm

If you like laughing and you like pizza then there is absolutely no better place for you to be on a Tuesday night than the comedy show at Alligator Lounge. Comedians Sean Donnelly, Steve O’Brien, Kevin McCaffrey and Robert Dean pass the mic while hosting this weekly stand-up show, during which guests will be provided with free pizza.

Boo At The Zoo

October 1st – 30th

Head over to the Bronx Zoo for magic shows, craft activities, and music shows during their 30 day Halloween extravaganza. There will also be pumpkin carving, special treat stations, a costume parade, and a hay maze. The Jack-O-Lanterns creatures are a must-see, creative experience. Tickets can be found here as well as specific times and dates of special events can be found here.

Aperture / Parsons Artist Talk: Tod Seelie
Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Tod Seelie has photographed in twenty-five countries on five different continents. His photographic work has appeared in publications such as the New York Times, TIME magazine, New York Magazine, Rolling Stone, Thrasher, Vice, among others. Investigating the subcultures of New York City and Los Angeles, Seelie’s work offers a raw glimpse into the underground, unknown life of these familiar cities. In partnership with Parsons photography department and Aperture Seelie will be doing an artist talk on his work. Behind the Slice
Thursday, October 20 at  6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Have you ever wondered what goes into making a single slice of pizza, on an industrial level? At this free panel event, sponsored by Parsons’ School of Constructed Environments, you can share a slice with some industry experts as they discuss their work as it relates to pizza. You will learn thing about pizza that you never even knew you wanted to know; manufacturing, history, design, and environmental impact.

Guest Speakers speakers include Mike Brockman, Laura Meyer, Scott Wiener, and Jennifer Wright-Laracy.

The Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade

October 22nd at 12:00 – 3:00 pm

Whether you have a dog or not the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade cannot be missed. Puppies of all shapes, sizes, colors, and textures come out in their best Halloween garb. Doggie runway competition begins at 12:00 pm and the suggested donation is $5. The parade of all contestants and spectators will follow after Best In Show is announced. CNN calls it “the largest dog costume parade in the world” with hundreds of dogs in costumes and thousands of spectators.

PUMPKINS.

Giant Pumpkin Weekend & Meet the Growers

October 22nd – 23rd

Get ready to see the biggest pumpkins that you’ve ever seen in your entire life. The New York Botanical Garden hosts an annual collaboration with the Giant Pumpkin Commonwealth, with pumpkins weighing in at over one ton. Meet the growers of these monster pumpkins to learn more about the growing process during a special Q&A session and enjoy photo-ops with these giant gourds, which will be on display through October 30.

HIKE.

Day Hike at Cat Rocks
Saturday October 22nd

The New School athletics and recreation department is offering a day hike event. It costs $15 for NS student snad $30 for any guests, faculty, alumni, or staff. This covers round-trip transportation and student guides.The 7-mile hike will ascent up West Mountain where the trail will open up to a panoramic view of the Hudson Valley. Participants are asked to provide their own water, lunch, and snacks & are asked to wear sturdy, closed toe shoes.  The group will meet at the Grand Central Station clock tower by 7:15am, where they will take the Metro North Hudson Line to the  Appalachian Trail. At the end of the day the group will plan on taking the 4:47pm return train, the ride will take 2 hours.

NYC Dessert Fest

Sunday October 23 from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Get your tickets here for a day of deliciousness and indulgence. Make sure to wear your stretchy pants because you’re going to be pigging out on a selection of 20 of the best dessert vendors in the New York area. These 20 vendors will be serving up their specialties as well as some never before seen mashups.
