Students at The New School received an email Wednesday afternoon in response to the snowstorm that swept across the Northeast and dumped more than 9 inches of snow in some parts of New York City.
The email announced that all classes and activities at The New School would be canceled Thursday, Feb. 9, and came shortly after Mayor Bill de Blasio’s announcement that New York City public schools would be closed Thursday in the wake of the storm.
Due to expected significant snowfall all @NYCSchools will be CLOSED tomorrow, Feb 9.

“We are hopeful that the main body of the snow will slow down between 12 noon and 1 p.m. So that super intense snow, hopefully, will start to see a reduce in an hour or two,” de Blasio said.
The next day around that time, residents of the city were seen shoveling the sidewalks and struggling to get around. While some students may have taken the opportunity to stay in and relax, others were out and about taking advantage of the freshly fallen snow and the time off from classes.
