If you haven’t seen the recent Oscar winner for ‘Best Picture’ Moonlight, you not only should but have to experience it! Take this free opportunity to see this transcendent film through the Student Development Office. Moonlight chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighborhood in Miami. Moonlight is amazing, emotional, and all sorts of other unexplainable adjectives. Just see it, you won’t be sorry!

Al Sharpton on Social Justice Today: The 2017 Henry Cohen Lecture Series

Internationally renowned civil rights leader, and activist Reverend Al Sharpton will be coming to the New School to participate in the Henry Cohen Lecture series. Sharpton has dedicated his life to the fight for justice and equality. Sharpton will be talking about civil rights, social justice and criminal justice reform in both NYC and nationally. Although this event is being held at TNS it’s also open to the general public, the event is free but reservations should be made in advance.

Building a Feminism for the 99%: Mobilization for International Women’s Strike

This event is an open conversation between feminists, students, workers, professors, and activists. More than 30 different countries are going to be striking on March 8 and they need your help to pull it off! It will be a day of action organized by and for women who feel they have been marginalized and silenced for decades. If you want to learn more about and participate in this event, join TNS for this conversational event. Bring your ideas, questions, and energy! This event is free and registration is not required. Bring your friends, your family, your mothers, your neighbors, your kids, your partners, the more the merrier.

I Am Not Your Negro
Written by James Baldwin and Raoul Peck, I Am Not Your Negro is a narration of race in America through the lives and assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr., Medgar Evers and Malcolm X. The story is based on the unfinished book by Baldwin and adapted for the screen and directed by Peck. Syndicated Bar Theater Kitchen is not your average movie theater, it has some seriously upgraded movie snacks such as fried chicken and loaded tater tots and they serve alcohol! Tickets can be purchased online or in person for only $7. The venue asks patrons to arrive early to their chosen showtime. Showtimes for 3/3 – 3/5 are below:

Enjoy the best of Ireland’s premium whiskeys at eight different awesome venues in downtown New York City. This all-day event is a great pre-game to get ready for St. Patrick’s Day. Whiskey Walkers will enjoy small food tastings as well as a tasting of a different select Irish whiskey at each location, all included in their ticket price. A portion of all the proceeds will go to benefit local non-profit and charitable organizations.
