Student and alumni job-seekers just got a helping hand from The New School’s new jobs portal, The Village. In the works since 2015, the portal offers a wide range of services for students and alumni. Through The Village, users can access comprehensive job listings, an online student directory, classifieds, and even a collaborative project space.
The portal replaces Career SuccessLink, which was introduced in early 2014 and allowed students to search for and apply to jobs and internships.
“The Village provides New School community members access to a range of information, tools, and services to enhance their experience as a New School community member,” said Victoria Fischman, the associate director of internships and global experience.
The Village offers listings for about 1700 jobs and internships to apply to. These include everything from a web production fellowship at the United Nations, a graphic design internship at the MTA, and an editorial internship at Milk Studios. The search feature can also filter jobs by the type of work, start date, and related programs. Students also receive regular roundup emails titled ‘Your Village Daily Digest’ with a list of the latest job and internship postings.
For those seeking guidance on their career paths, The Village links to events happening around campus that can help with resumes, portfolios and career fair prep.
In addition to the job resources, the portal allows students and faculty to connect and work with one another. Users can collaborate privately in groups, or share their ideas with the entire community. Users can search for students and faculty via the directory and can set up a personal profile to showcase your work.
“We’d like to see it as a go-to for students interested in connecting with other New School community members,” Fischman said, “and a place for accessing resources to help them succeed professionally and academically.”
