When news came out this week that Rihanna will be honored at this year’s Parsons benefit, the reaction from students was well, … excitement.

In addition to drawing high-profile honorees, the benefit gives select fashion students’ thesis collections exposure in front of major retailers. The other honorees of the 69th Annual Parsons Benefit are Eileen Fischer and Neiman Marcus Group.
The pop icon and creative director of Fenty x Puma has worn designs by recent Parsons alumni including Matthew Adams Dolan and Melody Ya Jun Lin.
This is not the first honor Rihanna has received from a prestigious university. She was honored by Harvard University on Feb 28, when they gave her the “Humanitarian of the Year” award.
The 69th Annual Parsons Benefit will take place May 22 at Pier 60. Individual tickets cost $2,500 for patrons and $5,000 for benefactors.
