Beyoncé Selects Parsons for New Scholarship

Published

Beyoncé has chosen Parsons as one of four schools to be part of a new scholarship program for women studying creative arts, music, literature, or African-American studies.

One lucky Parsons student will be awarded the scholarship in 2017-2018. The scholarship celebrates the one-year anniversary of her Grammy award winning album Lemonade, which also recently won a Peabody award. The new scholarship program is called the “Formation Scholars” award and  is meant to “encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious, confident,” according to the announcement on her site.

As news started to spread, Parsons students were getting excited.

“I just found out about this and think it’s a really great opportunity for women, especially women of color in the creative and professional fields to be able to afford going to and pursuing their careers,” Parsons Strategic Design and Management sophomore Sarah Fried said. “There definitely needs to be more scholarships for women of color in the creative fields so they can get their work out there.”

One female incoming, current, or graduate student from each school will be selected to receive the scholarship. The other three schools chosen for this scholarship include Berklee College of Music, Howard University, and Spelman College.
