The University Student Senate is celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year and they plan to commemorate the milestone with a party on Thursday, April 27.
The USS has thrown at least one notable party in the past.
The USS threw a party for students in September 2015 at the Manhattan club Marquee New York that cost $27,900. At the time, they said the costly university-wide party was to held to address the issue that many New School students felt there was no community at the school.
With a capacity of only 700 guests, the party ended up angering the many overflow students who weren’t able to get in.
The budget for the anniversary event was estimated at $5,500 but the “total might be slightly lower or higher after the event has been finalized,” representatives of the USS said via email. According to the USS party’s budget spreadsheet, from their public meeting minutes, they’ve spent $5,929.30 so far.
According to the USS meeting minutes, the event will also serve alcohol, budgeted at about $856.
The anniversary party will be free for New School community members and will have food and refreshments, as well as live music featuring New School performers and a photobooth.
All party-goers will be entered into a free raffle to win from a selection of prizes, which totaled are worth over $400. Items include a Fujifilm Camera, Trader Joe’s Gift Cards, Beats by Dre headphones, as well as other items.
Currently, there are 50 people who marked they were going and over 100 people who marked they were interested on the event’s Facebook page.
The anniversary event will take place in the Event Cafe and the Starr Foundation Room in the University Center from 9:00 PM -12:00 AM.
