Fashion on 5th is The New School Free Press’ weekly fashion column showcasing the student’s best and most unique looks of the week.
This week, New School students comfortably flaunted thrifted finds and branded grabs.
Emily Michaels, freshman studying fashion design at Parsons, emphasized the importance of “random pieces” in her wardrobe. Michaels bundled up with an eye-catching red Urban Outfitters sweater, purchased because “nobody wanted it” — the sweater had caught her eye, alone on an Urban Outfitters rack. Her wide legged jeans were plucked from an LF sale. A Moschino Barbie Dream House phone case is the perfect addition to any outfit — Michaels said the case is great protection while also staying fun.
Danny Kuo, a junior studying graphic design at Parsons, drew attention to his urban wear look. Clad in a Louis Vuitton and Supreme collaboration military jacket styled with a Vetements white t-shirt, Kuo said he’s more drawn to colors like “cameo and olive”. His Fendi slip on sneakers were comfortable, as well as stylish.
Left: Jane Janey, a senior studying Fashion design at Parsons, owned her relaxed everyday style. “I’m lazy, I love wearing black because I’m lazy,” Janey said. Her four year old shirt was adorned with safety pins, paired with a reworked pair of pants from Old Navy. Her shoes were classic black and white Skechers. “They’re so comfortable,” Janey said.
Right: Donna Youn, a senior studying fashion design at Parsons, hates wearing restricting clothing. She wore what made her feel the most comfortable. Youn normally puts sweaters over her outfit for a loose look. “I’m a lazy shopper, everything I wear is comfortable,” Youn said.
Jacob Seferian, a senior studying journalism and design at Lang, paired shorts from Urban Outfitters with a thrifted printed button down shirt. “The hole in the shoulder humanizes me” Seferian said. He turned around to reveal a small black backpack, perfect for carrying the essentials.
Isabela Weeks, a senior studying fine arts at Parsons, pointed out the details of her sleeves. “I’ve really been into ruffles lately,” Weeks said. She wore Levi’s 501s thrifted from L Train Vintage. Weeks finished off the look with a pair of sleek black booties and a gold Gucci belt.
Left: Ines Emquie, a sophomore at Lang, said her overall style reflected the 1960s and French fashions. Emquie’s look was inspired by her current playlist. “I’ve been listening to a lot of punk music recently, so I’ve been into a subtle punk look,” Emquie said.
Right: Lily Bowden, a sophomore majoring in art history at Lang, emphasized comfort, bringing attention to her dark wash relaxed trouser. “These are my favorite pants, I wear them everyday,” Bowden said. Peeking from under the unfinished hem of her pants were red leather boots, adding a pop of color.
