John Waters’ “Pink Flamingos” on the Big Screen

Friday, March 2 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The Morgan Library is hosting a rare screening of John Waters’ 1972 underground classic starring Divine. It is notable for its transgressive nature and historical status as an early document of queer cinema. Free (with museum admission).

Heaven on Earth: Rihanna

Saturday, March 3, doors open at 10 p.m.

China Chalet is having a Rihanna-themed installment of the Heaven on Earth party, “a monthly pop music party that highlights different gay icons and gay pop moments.” $15 before 10:30 p.m, $20 after.

The Social Responsibility of Intellectuals Conference

Saturday, March 3 from 9:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A social justice conversation and conference about what it means to be socially responsible as academics, particularly during this “politically tumultuous moment”.  Speakers include Amy Cook, a professor of Theatre and English, Jonathan Rawski and other PhD students covering a range of topics from poetry to politics. Free.

Race and Capitalism Conversation 

Wednesday, March 7 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Michael Dawson and Nancy Fraser will engage in a debate about the relationship between race and capitalism. The conversation will focus “Black Politics and the Neoliberal Racial Order”’ and “Expropriation and Exploitation in Racialized Capitalism.” Free.

Audre Lorde – The Berlin Years 1984 – 1992

Friday, March 9 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Anthology Film Archives is hosting a screening of a documentary exploring Audre Lorde’s time in Berlin and how she helped encourage the development of Afro-German identity. $11 general admission, $9 students.

Queer Trash: Brutal Measures, Keijaun Thomas, Straight Panic

Saturday, March 10 at 8 p.m.

Queer Trash, a collective founded as a means to give a platform to queer artists within the experimental music scene, will be hosting spoken word and music performances by Brutal Measures, Keijaun Thomas and Straight Panic. $15 general admission, $12 students

Friday, March 23 at 8 p.m.

Poets Dia Felix, author of poetry books YOU YOU YOU and Nochita,  and Litia Perta, whose recent works include “a book about kinship, a piece on the costs of American education, and countless stories of sleep,” will be reading their work at The Poetry Project. $8 general admission, $7 students, (no one will be turned away for lack of funds)

NYC Feminist Zinefest

Sunday, March 25 from 12 to 6 p.m.

Columbia University’s annual zinefest is taking place at Barnard College with dozens of tables carrying feminist zines, prints, clothes, and other assorted goods. Free admission.

Historians on Hamilton

Monday, March 26 at 7 p.m.

The panel will be composed of historians will discuss the hip-hop presentation of Hamilton and whether or not it accurately conveys history to a present-day audience. Free. Online registration is required at events.newschool.edu

Every Wednesday in March, 3 to 3:45 p.m.

Mindful Meditation is a mindfulness group meditation hosted by Student Health Services for stress relief and health wellness. It is exclusively open for students.

Reiki Circle

Every Wednesday in March, 1:40 to 2:40 p.m.

Student health services is providing a group experience where students can practice Reiki, a Japanese healing technique using ‘subtle energy’ as a means of stress reduction and healing.
