Fashion on 5th is The New School Free Press’ fashion column showcasing the student’s best and most unique looks of the week.
Michael Anthony
Michael Anthony, a senior studying poetry, was wearing a Japanese brand of glasses. They own a collection of eyewear with over 15 different pairs of glasses. Anthony wore wool Allbird shoes, their “trademark” floral button up shirt and a Banana Republic bomber jacket. “I’m gender non-conforming and floral represents to me femininity and it’s a rejection of masculinity. It gives me the freedom to dress the way I want.”
Braden Moore
Braden Moore, a fashion design junior, was wearing a vintage Armani shirt, a Halston scarf, pants from Amazon and St. Laurent shoes. In terms of his style he said, “I don’t really think about it, it just comes together.”
Nadia Marjanovich
Nadia Marjanovich, a fashion design senior was wearing a sweater from Free People, Versace pants and Adidas sneakers. “This morning I was not feeling great… so I wanted to dress with more color to get me more excited for the day. I just wanted to dress with some excitement.”
Ky Fernandez
Ky Fernandez, a freshman studying illustration, was wearing a blazer, a box patterned shirt paired with a mock neck sweater, jeans, and skechers. “I like to thrift my clothes. I like it because you can find things that you know that no one is going to have an exact item because its not in store anymore.” Fernandez dyed her hair blue to look like the characters she draws,” I want to turn myself into a cartoon character. I want to be like easily recognizable.”
Devon May
Devon May, a freshman studying graphic design, was sporting a very ‘90s outfit made up of a vintage Tommy Hilfiger windbreaker, his roommates shirt, jeans and converse he stole from his brother. His necklace is from his roommate. “I based my style off of pop culture. During the day I’m chill, but at night I go all out.”
Emily Michaels
Emily Michaels, a AAS student fashion design student, was wearing a wool coat and chiffon polka-dot top she made.To accessorize, Michaels decorated her phone with a large, pink rubber case. “I think fashion is more than what you put on. I think it’s a way for you to be a chameleon in the world. Everyday I dress differently, I don’t think I have a set of style I wear everyday. I don’t believe in uniform.”
