Film Screening – “Beyond Conviction”

In 1998, the state of Pennsylvania launched a pioneering mediation program where victims of violent crimes or their family members could meet face-to-face with the perpetrators of their crimes. “Beyond Conviction” is a documentary that follows three pairs of survivors and perpetrators as they go through this emotionally intense program. The film gives a rare glimpse into the lingering pain, questions and regrets for both sides and reveals the bold and difficult path to redemption and reconciliation.

King in New York

Marking the 50th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King Jr.,  the “King in New York” exhibition explores the civil rights leader’s encounters with New York from the 1950s until his assassination in 1968.

Thursday, April 12

The Ocean After Nature Exhibition

This exhibition explores new ways of representing the seascape as a means to identify and critique land-sea divides, the circulation of people and goods and the vulnerabilities of ecosystems. It features the work of 20 artists and collectives in a variety of media — including photography, video, sculpture, and design.

Sunday, April 15

Earth Day in Union Square

An early city celebration for Earth Day with a full day of events and informative activities. Attendees can look forward to an exhibition on the sharing economy, displays from local businesses with green initiatives, a showcase of green vehicles, live music and kids activities.

Open Mic Night

Play a song, show your stand-up, read a poem, perform in any genre you want. You get five minutes to show one piece. Show what you got!

Wednesday, April 18

Tribeca Film Festival Opening Night: Documentary “Love, Gilda” by Gilda Radner

Tribeca Film Festival is opening with the world premiere of Love Gilda, a documentary Gilda Radner, known for her characters played on Saturday Night Live. Directed and produced by Lisa D’Apolito, the documentary looks back at the actress’ life.

The Wizard of Oz

The Harlem Repository Theater presents an adaptation of “The Wizard of Oz” following the story of Dorothy, and her dog, Toto, who wakes up in a strange land filled with witches and wizards, munchkins and monkeys.

Brooklyn Flea, Sunday in DUMBO

This flea market in DUMBO features 80 vendors and is part vintage bazaar, part old-fashioned town square and part food bonanza.

New York Comics & Picture-Story Symposium: Featuring Kevin Patrick

A panel discussion on Kevin Patrick’s comic “The Phantom Unmasked: America’s First Superhero.” The panel will discuss topics related to the transnational history of America’s first superhero and reappraises the cultural of American popular culture.

Amateur Night at The Apollo

One of New York’s most popular live entertainment experiences is hosting a singing competition. It is known for its notoriously “tough” audience who will decide if contestants will “be good or be gone” who will win the grand prize.

Cherry Blossom Festival

The annual festival celebrates the Japanese cultural tradition of enjoying each moment of the cherry blossom season. The festival will include activities such as face painting, paper flower making, and kite flying.

A quiet space for sleep and relaxation. Sleeping materials like pillows, eye masks will be provided. A facilitator is present to keep an eye on everyone’s items.

“David Bowie Is” Exhibition

The Brooklyn Museum is holding a touring exhibition of David Bowie, celebrating the celestial pop icon’s life with more than 400 objects including costumes, lyric sheets and performance clips.
