February 11

“The Propensity to Hoard is Stronger than the Inducement to Invest”: Capitalism after the Volcker Interest Rate Shock of 1980

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: 80 Fifth Ave. Room G529

Cost: Free, Registration required.

A lecture that will explain the dynamics of global capitalism after experiencing the Volcker interest rate shock in 1980. The talk will be presented by Jonathan Levy, Professor of U.S. History at the University of Chicago.

February 12-16

The Stone at The New School Presents Vicky Chow

Time: 8:30-9:30 p.m.

Location: Glass Box Performance Space, 55 W 13th St.

Cost: Free for New School students, $20 for general public.

Vicky Chow, a pianist known who can go from interpreting classical music and experimentation with electroacoustic sound, will be coming to The Stone and perform five different sets for solo piano. There will be several special guest artists to accompany her throughout the nights.

From “Crazy Rich Asians” to “The Future is Asian”

Time: 3 – 5 p.m.

Location: Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts, 3 Spruce St.

Dr. Parag Khanna, an international relations expert, will be presenting excerpts from his new book, “The Future is Asian: Commerce, Conflict and Culture in the 21st Century.” The book focuses on the shift in global power from the West to Asia.

Take Back Your Vday: An Alternative Valentine’s Day Event

Time: 7 – 10 p.m.

Location: Rise New York, 43 W 23rd St.

Cost: $20

An alternative to your average Valentines Day, Take Back Your VDay is a night full of games for singles and couples alike. Activities range from a pop-up exhibit where guests bring an item from a previous romantic relationship, to making Valentines arts & crafts, just like you’d do in elementary school.

Chinatown’s Lunar New Year Parade
