Karya Karayalcin
Karya Karayalcin is a senior studying fashion design at Parsons. She wears a vivid blue coat, which matches the color of her sparkly knit sweater. The coat is 30-years-old and was made in the former Yugoslavia. Karya purchased it from Beacon’s Closet for a school project. “I found this and fell in love. I’m doing my whole thesis on this color actually, so it’s very inspirational,” said Karayalcin. She tops off the outfit with a pair of studded shoes from Zara.
Alexander Maculam and Nicholas Maculam
Alexander Maculam and Nicholas Maculam are twins majoring in Architectural Design in their first year at Parsons. Alexander is wearing a white t-shirt from AllSaints paired with a black leather jacket from Sandro and g pale blue vintage Levi’s. “I got then from Metropolis Vintage in the East Village,” he said. He rolled them up in order to show off his kicks, white Jordans. Matching his brother, Nicholas also has on a white shirt but his is by Sandro. “I wanted to wear simple clothes.” He achieves this nonchalant look by pairing his white t-shirt with a pair of AllSaints black pants and a long black Uniqlo coat.
Qingzi Gao
Parsons fashion student, Qingzi Gao (AKA Queenzy) wears a long sweater and jacket from H&M’s collaboration with Moschino. Sticking to the all black theme from head to toe, she added a black beret hat with dazzling rhinestones purchased from Zara. “Black makes me feel safe,” she said. Gao adds some pop of color to her ensemble by using orange eyeshadow to match her bright orange hair.
Brandon Morris
Brandon Morris is a freshmen at Parsons majoring in Fashion Design. He enjoys distressed clothing, which is what why he bought these light-wash ripped jeans by Dior and faded navy Vans. He adds a splash of color to his outfit with a bright red leather jacket over an Undercover t-shirt. But the most intriguing part of his outfit is on his back. “I took an old backpack and put [on] a bunch of patches and buttons” He said, explaining his process. The unique accessory took him about a week to make.
Hui Gao
Hui Gao is also studying Fashion Design at Parsons, but she is in her second year. Her intricately patterned jacket is vintage, as well as her lilac, button up dress shirt. Her combat boots were gifts given to her by her friends. A golden chain dangles from one of her multiple piercings, which she says didn’t hurt too much.
Luke Lyons
Luke Lyons is a freshmen at Lang, majoring in Global Studies. He bought his 90s-inspired sunglasses from a vendor at Union Square for around five bucks. His shirt is more personal; he got it after doing a 5k race in his hometown. “They used to give you cotton t-shirts for running it, that’s the only reason I did it.” He rolls up his white, cotton pants at the legs to emphasize his white Converse shoes. His pants were thrifted from Beacon’s Closet. He accessorizes his outfit with a oversized purse from J Crew and, in very New School fashion, a dark blue vape.
