New York City is known for its fabulous streetwear and outrageous fashion that can be spotted anytime, anywhere. It’s finally that time of year when fashion lovers pull out their winter wardrobe full of fuzzy berets, chunky boots, and of course the beloved trench coat. In this edition of Trendsetter, learn how the people of NYC are styling their trenches and where they find the season’s hottest trends and inspiration.
Katya Tolstova paired her fabulous monochromatic neon pink set with a small lavender handbag, nude boots, and her matching nude trench.
Her favorite trend is currently anything with sequins, and she says most fashion inspiration comes from runway shows.
A tip to take from Tolstova’s outfit is the use of simple pieces with bold colors. This fall, try playing with statement colors; it can make getting dressed quick and easy, while still looking put together and on trend. Tolstova’s bright pink set paired with the nude accessories is simple, yet fun. Plus the small pop of lavender is the perfect addition to the color palette!
Melyssa Willis sported another amazing trench and tall boot combo, but took a different approach by adding printed accessories.
Both her boots and purse are snake print, pairing amazingly with the leather trench coat. You’ll also notice Willis’ sunglasses match her coat perfectly, allowing the green dress to be a beautiful pop of color. The midi length allows for the perfect peek of the scrunch boots, so the snake skin is visibly matching her purse.
Willis’ favorite current trend is anything comfy and cargo. Since fall is all about comfort, she says parachute or cargo pants that pair well with a boot is a go this season.
Bethany Morrison wore a similar color palette to Melyssa, as the nude and olive green combo is very in this fall. Morrison wore an olive colored maxi skirt, tall brown leather boots, a matching nude coat, and a black corset to match her black shoulder bag.
Morrison’s favorite fall trend is a tall boot, which pairs amazingly with any trench or quilted coat. This duo seems to be a recurring favorite this week and the perfect staple this season.
A fashion tip to take from Morrison is her use of color blocking. The nude boots and coat, black top and bag, and then the pop of green skirt allows for each item to stand out and look super chic.
Erica Choi took a minimalist approach to styling her trench coat. Pairing a nude trench with a black slip and black chelsea boots creates a chic look for fall.
Similar to the other trench coat wearers, Choi added a pop to her outfit with the mini Dior tote, the perfect addition to this very fall fit. Her favorite trend right now is clogs, which pairs great with a trench for a funkier look!
