Following negotiations, SENS-UAW Local 7902 and The New School have reached a verbal Tentative Agreement on the academic student workers’ contract. As of 4:00 p.m. the union’s Bargaining Committee is waiting on a printed tentative agreement from the university, which they will sign to agree to ratify their verbal agreement to the terms discussed today, and officially call off the strike.

In the session, Local 7902 President Zoe Carey said the union agrees to the most recent terms, after removing their proposal ensuring dental healthcare.

According to the union bargaining committee meeting, the issues that were negotiated until the end were healthcare, specifically dental care, the length of the contract agreement, and a retroactive pay model to make up for the months this contract was under negotiations.

Ultimately, the university and the union verbally agreed on a contract length of 3 years, for which they removed their dental healthcare proposal. In the most recent bargaining session, the union and university verbally agreed to the “No Strike No Lockout” clause that is also in the Part-Time Faculty contract.

Since agreements have been made between both parties on all open articles, the contract will now be sent to union membership after contract language is finalized. They will then vote on whether or not to ratify and accept the contract by March 31.
