The singer, writer and actor who appeared in ‘Halloween’ released his debut EP at the end of last year and will perform at Gramercy Theatre tonight alongside the guitar heroes.
Kurt Deimer is a writer, singer and actor who’s made quite a splash on the hard rock scene through his work with Bon Jovi guitarist Phil X. The multidisciplinary artist released his first EP, “Work Hard, Rock Hard,” at the end of last year, boasting an appearance from former Queensryche vocalist Geoff Tate. Deimer’s latest single, “Hero,” was released yesterday and is available on all major streaming platforms.
Deimer’s band, which features key collaborator Phil X, is currently on tour with guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen. The outfit is scheduled to perform in New York City at Gramercy Theatre at 7 p.m. tonight.
“I was kind of a college screw up,” Deimer told The New School Free Press via Zoom. “I partied too much, I was immature and I didn’t know anything about what I was doing. I played locally around Cincinnati, but I gave it up, started a family and raised three beautiful boys.”
Deimer would earn a BA in English and an MA in marketing before starting his own oil company, Starfire, an unlikely role that helped him find his way back to the arts.
“I went to shoot a cameo because we got some placements in some movies back in 2017 for my brand Starfire,” Deimer said. “I’m walking around the set of ‘Trading Paint’ with John Travolta and Shania Twain, waiting to do this cameo and they needed someone to do this speaking role as an announcer in the last scene of the movie. So next thing you know, I was in the film. It was a sign. I ended up being in ‘Halloween’ [2018] after that, getting killed by Michael Myers. While I was filming stuff in Alabama, I met my original writer Ben Trexel and said, ‘let me throw some vocals on these songs you’ve written.’ That’s when the music started, December 2018. Here we are.”
Deimer’s rise to prominence has been swift, catching the attention of frequent collaborator Phil X almost immediately. The duo writes Deimer’s music alongside producer Chris Lord-Alge, incorporating elements of old school heavy metal, contemporary rock and country.
Prior to landing the Malmsteen tour, Deimer hit the road with Tate, who contributed vocals to Deimer’s latest release. We had a chance to catch Deimer’s performance supporting Malmsteen at the Patchogue Theatre for the Arts on Tuesday. Audience reactions to Deimer’s performance were positive, and the singer took to the merch table post-show to meet and greet fans while Malmsteen demolished his signature white Fender Stratocasters, seemingly to shreds, with his lightning-fast fingers.
As for the rest of the year, Deimer is cooking up a few tours and preparing for the release of “Hellbilly Hollow,” a horror film he co-wrote and stars in with a tentative fall release. Deimer has also revealed that he will appear alongside horror legend Bill Moseley (“House of 1000 Corpses,” “Devils Rejects” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2” star), in a film titled “Scared to Death” that is set to begin filming later this year.
