In this week’s Fashion on Fifth, I’m honoring one of my favorite prints: camouflage. Because let’s face it, good camo is hard to find. Composed of browns, greens, and grays, I consider it a neutral in my wardrobe. It’s a print with a long history. It’s trickled down from the military to be utilized by high fashion designers as a symbol of uniform, workwear, and even rebellion.

Fashion on Fifth: Skirts over pants, really?
This week’s Fashion on Fifth is about layering skirts over pants and whether the resurrection of our whimsical and questionable childhood outfits are still relevant around campus. Is Hannah Montana still in style? Let’s see what the students say.
Fashion on Fifth: Jean-eology
This week’s Fashion on Fifth will cover denim from head-to-toe. Jeans are always in style but their washes, rises, and fit fluctuate in popularity depending on fashion and pop culture trends. Triggered by Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter,” Lana Del Rey’s upcoming country album “Lasso,” and Pharell’s Louis Vuitton Fall 2024 menswear collection, fashion is facing an almost overwhelming Western revival.
Fashion on Fifth: Buckle in for belts
For this week’s Fashion on Fifth, we’re buckling in with belts that allow us to wear oversized jeans and make a statement. The importance of buckles has stood the test of time, being used throughout history to tell stories, show status, and of course to look fashionable. Today, a belt has various sentiments among students and staff at The New School.
Fashion on Fifth: Bags, bags, bags!
This week’s Fashion on Fifth is all about bags. Everyone knows the iconic shoe girl who has more shoes in her closet than clothes. And, while we know about the Carrie Bradshaws of the world, we rarely see the love shown to the people who (similar to Carrie) love their bags more than their rent-stabilized apartment.
Fashion on Fifth: Spring trend predictions? Groundbreaking
This week’s Fashion on Fifth is something that Miranda Priestly will either love or hate. Rather than focusing on the traditional florals (groundbreaking, I know), I wanted to dive into what New School students think will be trending this spring. Trends can be a finicky thing, especially in an industry that’s gradually working its way towards being more environmentally-conscious and sustainable. But if we’re all being honest with ourselves, it’s hard not to notice patterns in what we’re seeing both on the streets and on the runway.
