Fashion on Fifth is back! And it’s not the only thing that’s back, either. With the fall 2024 semester finally upon us, I couldn’t resist asking people to divulge the creative processes behind curating their individual back-to-school looks.

Fashion on Fifth: Blending in

In this week’s Fashion on Fifth, I’m honoring one of my favorite prints: camouflage. Because let’s face it, good camo is hard to find. Composed of browns, greens, and grays, I consider it a neutral in my wardrobe. It’s a print with a long history. It’s trickled down from the military to be utilized by high fashion designers as a symbol of uniform, workwear, and even rebellion.

This week’s Fashion on Fifth will cover denim from head-to-toe. Jeans are always in style but their washes, rises, and fit fluctuate in popularity depending on fashion and pop culture trends. Triggered by Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter,” Lana Del Rey’s upcoming country album “Lasso,” and Pharell’s Louis Vuitton Fall 2024 menswear collection, fashion is facing an almost overwhelming Western revival.

For this week’s Fashion on Fifth, we’re buckling in with belts that allow us to wear oversized jeans and make a statement. The importance of buckles has stood the test of time, being used throughout history to tell stories, show status, and of course to look fashionable. Today, a belt has various sentiments among students and staff at The New School.
